Types of ADHD Medications
ADHD medications can help reduce symptoms by improving the way neurons transmit messages. Some medications increase neurotransmitters while others reduce the process of reuptake.

Amphétamines or methylphenidates are the most common stimulants used to treat ADHD. They can be effective within 20 minutes and last for up to four hours. They are available in pill, liquid or patch forms.

It is available as a tablet with immediate release or capsule with controlled release, which can be taken once or twice every day.
Side effects of stimulant medications may include upset stomach, changes in heart rate or blood pressure, as well as tics. Tics are frequent, rapid sound or movements such as eye blinking or throat clearing.
